Tyre Safety Tips
Taking care of tyres is real quick & easy — follow our tyre-care tips and do these regular checks in a jiffy.
REDUCE TYRE WEAR
IMPROVE FUEL EFFICIENCY
ENHANCE HANDLING & COMFORT
REDUCE TYRE WEAR Vehicles with well-aligned wheels can reduce uneven wear and tear and give thousands of additional kilometres of tyre mileage. One of the main causes of adverse tyre wear is incorrect wheel alignment which results in unnecessary and premature tyre replacements.
IMPROVE FUEL EFFICIENCY Wheel roll resistance can be reduced with perfect parallel alignment and proper tyre inflation. Vehicle fuel mileage increases with decreasing rolling resistance.
IMPROVE HANDLING & RIDE COMFORT A vehicle steadily pulled or drifting sidewise, needing constant steering correction to keep the vehicle in a straight path can be tiresome. Inefficient absorption of road shocks also affects a smooth ride. With perfect wheel alignment these and other vehicle handling problems can be easily rectified, vastly improving driver and passenger ride comfort.
What Our Clients Say
-
1. As the driver of the vehicle, approach the vehicle from the wrong side! This gives you a chance to inspect the tyres. This also gives you a chance to inspect the vehicle body as well as to make sure there are no children or pets under or around the vehicle!
2. Ensure tyres have nearly the same inflation by pressing with your foot on top of the tyres.
3. Do observe the tyre sidewalls for visible cracks or bulges.
4. Pebbles and small stones (pointed or not) can cause punctures or blow-outs. Remove them with your key or other non-sharp objects.
-
1. A quick stop at the petrol station gives you a chance to check pressure or top up the tyres.
2. Always top up before going on a drive (cold tyres), not when the tyres are hot after a drive — tyres show inaccurate pressure readout when hot (tyres take ~4 hours to cool down).
3. Remember: Once a month check and inflate the spare tyre.

All reputable workshops have alignment specs for all vehicle models, so ensure to have the wheel alignment checked by a precision alignment system.
Here are some of the effects on vehicle, tyre and safety when running misaligned wheels:
‣ Rapid & uneven tread-wear,
‣ Unstable & rough running,
‣ Non-straight line braking,
‣ Suspension subject to uneven load distribution,
‣ Steering components subject to extra stress.
All of these cause tyres to wear more quickly and irregularly, and prevent the vehicle from driving and stopping safely. Note: This can also void the tyre warranty from the manufacturer.

All tyres types come with tread wear indicators (TWI) commonly ~1.6mm in height. You can safely decide it is time to replace tyres when a TWI is flush with the rest of the tread-face.
One thing to look for: irregular wear — where one section of the tyre is more worn than the rest of the tyre.
Irregular tread-wear can occur when:
1. All tyres are not uniformly inflated,
2. The wheels are not balanced,
3. The wheels are misaligned.

In case of a tyre blow-out, it suddenly becomes more difficult for the wheel to rotate. In the case of a front tyre blow-out, the front end tends to pull towards the side of the blow-out due to the smaller radius pulling the vehicle in the direction of the blow-out.
Things to do:
1. Do not apply the brakes,
2. Decelerate gently,
3. Pull off the road, 2 same-side wheels at a time,
4. Roll to a halt.
5. Call for help & service.
